This paper analyses the challenges associated with disseminating agricultural information via radio in Osun State, Nigeria, drawing from secondary data. It underscores the role of radio in advancing agricultural development at the grassroots level, acknowledging its potential to impact local farmers' productivity and decision-making processes. Despite its advantages, the study identifies several hindrances impacting the efficacy of radio as a medium for agricultural information dissemination in developing contexts, notably including issues related to reception quality, coverage area, and the specificity of broadcasted messages. The analysis further delves into the integration of radio within the broader spectrum of development communication strategies, aiming to enhance agricultural productivity and knowledge transfer among farming communities. Through a lens focused on development communication theories such as the Powerful-Effect Theory and Diffusion of Innovation Theory, the paper articulates the role of radio in shaping agricultural practices, behaviours, and technological adoption among farmers in Osun State. It concludes by affirming the enduring relevance of radio in bridging informational gaps within the agricultural sector while simultaneously acknowledging the need to overcome identified challenges to maximise its impact. This study contributes to the discourse on media’s role in rural development, emphasising the necessity for tailored, accessible, and context-specific approaches in agricultural information dissemination to foster sustainable development and enhance food security in developing regions.
